Never be afraid to try something new. Remember that a lone amateur built the Ark.
And a large group of professionals built the Titanic.
fabulous photo! please send the kimono by 1st class mail. I appreciate it in advance. smiles and cheers mate.
Hehe actually I'm collecting kimonos, and this one is the first I ever bought. That's one of the good things about being in Japan - you can find cheap good-looking ones if you know where to look... bad things is, I don't really have the rooms to display them !

To me kimonos are like paintings you can wear - I'm planning to have another shoot with kimonos sometime soon...
I would love to collect kimonos. They are like paintings and even more, I imagine there are patterns that have passed down through ages and history of Japanese fabrics. That interests me a lot. Are there any books on kimonos that one can look into that you know about? I look forward to your other photos. A great subject I think. cheers.
Yes Japanese traditional paterns are very intersting. Most of kimonos produced today are too modern and too flashy for me, overloaded with figurative paterns (birds etc) that I find a bit to typical. Some of the oler ones are incredible pieces of work but they're also extra costly - even though the one in the pic is quite recent it costs about 6000 USD for the kimono alone (don't worry I bought it second hand much cheaper...). The nicest ones are usually part of private collections and not for sales. Being in Japan in could only recommend a few books but that would be of little interest for you as I don't think you could find them outside Japan. I'm quite sure there has to be a lots of good books in the US... plus you get to understand the comments under the pictures !
